The Many Uses of Lemons

I bought few pieces of lemons from a local supermarket near our place and I used lemon slices to add flavor to my drinking water.  I usually infused my water with lemon and cucumber slices.  It does not only add flavor to the blunt taste of the water but it also brings lots of health benefits.

Lemons belong to a family of citrus fruits and is characterized by it's yellow peeling.  This is often mixed with drinks to add flavor to it's distinctive taste.  It has medicinal and antibacterial properties that provides cure for a number of illnesses.  lemon is great immune booster and is particularly best to have when you are suffering from colds and flu.  Lemons could also improve the functioning of your liver by supplying energy to the enzymes.  But apart from the many health benefits of lemon, did you know that it has a number of domestic uses, too?

Mixing 1 tbsp of lemon juice in 1 cup of distilled water, 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1 tbsp of baking soda in a spray bottle will give you an instant fruit and vegetable cleaner.  It will disinfect your fruits and vegetables to help you prepare a healthy raw vegetable and fruit salad.

Lemon peels are also known to drive away pests such as ants, cockroaches, fleas and rodents.  Lemon peelings should be placed on entry ways and windowsills so these pests will stay away from your house.

Lemons could also be added to water and hydrogen peroxide to make a home made bleach that could be used in washing clothes and cleaning your bath rooms.

Lemons could also be used as fabric whitener by just adding 1 cup of lemon juice to the last rinsing cycle.  This could make your clothes smelling fresh and clean.

Lemons are also being used as a primary ingredient in a number of desserts like cakes and pastries. Due to the many uses of lemons, this has always been the number one item in my grocery list.
