Tips For Trying To Conceive

Starting a family of your own is indeed a challenge.  I remember when I just got married, I have doubts if I will be able to conceive a child.  I'm having issues with my health since I was in the elementary grades.  I was anemic and often experience nose bleeding especially when I'm directly exposed to the sun.  I was not able to join any extra curricular activities in school especially the ones which require strenuous physical activity.  I also have problem with my monthly period.  Sometimes my Mom would bring me to the hospital for injection as I can no longer bear the pain.  I realize that health is really important especially for women if you want to have a healthy family, as well.

When you are trying to conceive, it is very important that your body is healthy and ready. There are ways to prepare your body in trying to conceive.  If you and your partner are into processed foods and junk foods, try to slowly change your food choice to healthy foods like fruits and vegetables, they are packed with so many vitamins and minerals to prepare your body in trying to conceive.  Stay fit by having regular exercise and getting enough sleep.  Do not let you and your partner be too stressed out.  Have fun and enjoy while trying to conceive.  According to, a woman can also start taking prenatal vitamins when trying to conceive.  This will prepare her body with the vitamins that the baby needs like Folic Acid and calcium.  As for the men, make sure to keep your sperms cool by avoiding hot tubs, saunas and laptops staying on your lap for a very long time - these are known to be the number 1 sperm killers.  In trying to conceive, staying healthy is the number one thing that you have to do.  If you and your partner have been trying to conceive for more than 6 months to no avail, set an appointment with your doctor.

Now a days there are more ways to ensure that you can conceive a child without worrying about your health.  All we have to do is "be aware".  We can surf online, read books and ask friends who just had their babies and learn from their experiences.  It is better to be safe than sorry.

Hosting Parties At Home

Time flies so fast, 15 days more to go and it's going to be Christmas!  Probably, some of you are already thinking on how to celebrate Christmas at home as we always want to have a unique celebration each year.

First, we have to decide whether the party will be outdoors or indoors.  Personally, I prefer outdoors so the guests could move freely and also to make clean up after the party a lot easier especially if you don't have any house helper.

Second, if you want to make it outdoors, you have to decide whether you want a sit down dinner or cocktail type of party where you will serve lots of drinks and finger foods.  You may also want to try "boodle fight" for a more intimate way of having dinner with your friends or family members.

Third, you may want to add a bit of decor outdoors.  Candle lights or white Christmas lights and some DIY colorful pom poms will surely be an attractive decor.

Fourth, you have to decide on what kind of foods you are going to serve.  If you opt to have a"boodle fight", grilled assortment of foods will be most suitable plus a lot of side dishes. :)

Fifth, you have to decide on what would be good for your dessert.  This should go with the chosen dishes that you've prepared for dinner.

Lastly, think of how your guests would be entertained.  Whether you opt to just have a chatting session with them, watch a DVD movie or enjoy music together, what is important is that you are prepared.  I'm sure we do have all the things necessary to entertain our guests at home, if not, then you can visit website of your choice to shop for your needs before that big event.

Hosting parties at home is not that difficult as you may think.  All it takes is just proper planning and preparation to make your party an affair to remember. :)

The Many Uses of Lemons

I bought few pieces of lemons from a local supermarket near our place and I used lemon slices to add flavor to my drinking water.  I usually infused my water with lemon and cucumber slices.  It does not only add flavor to the blunt taste of the water but it also brings lots of health benefits.

Lemons belong to a family of citrus fruits and is characterized by it's yellow peeling.  This is often mixed with drinks to add flavor to it's distinctive taste.  It has medicinal and antibacterial properties that provides cure for a number of illnesses.  lemon is great immune booster and is particularly best to have when you are suffering from colds and flu.  Lemons could also improve the functioning of your liver by supplying energy to the enzymes.  But apart from the many health benefits of lemon, did you know that it has a number of domestic uses, too?

Mixing 1 tbsp of lemon juice in 1 cup of distilled water, 1/2 cup of white vinegar and 1 tbsp of baking soda in a spray bottle will give you an instant fruit and vegetable cleaner.  It will disinfect your fruits and vegetables to help you prepare a healthy raw vegetable and fruit salad.

Lemon peels are also known to drive away pests such as ants, cockroaches, fleas and rodents.  Lemon peelings should be placed on entry ways and windowsills so these pests will stay away from your house.

Lemons could also be added to water and hydrogen peroxide to make a home made bleach that could be used in washing clothes and cleaning your bath rooms.

Lemons could also be used as fabric whitener by just adding 1 cup of lemon juice to the last rinsing cycle.  This could make your clothes smelling fresh and clean.

Lemons are also being used as a primary ingredient in a number of desserts like cakes and pastries. Due to the many uses of lemons, this has always been the number one item in my grocery list.

Next House Project.

My daughter had their dance practice at home for their school presentation, and I was able to watch them while practicing.  I am deeply entertained with the use of blacklight and it's effect on the overall concept of the dance.  I wonder if it's the american dj blacklight.  I've also noticed that they have a good selection of music and that it perfectly matches their dance execution.  I'm glad that we had an extra space in the house for them to do their practice as I was able to watch the dance first hand.

Hopefully we will be able to have our garage covered next year so we could do more activities in the house either for dance rehearsals or a simple get together.  That might be our upcoming project in the house then.  I wish we could have everything fixed the soonest so we could move on with our next project.

How Should I Maintain My Curtains?

We all know that dressing up our homes with cute curtains makes a big difference!  Having curtains at home not only beautify the walls and windows but also protects our indoors from accumulating too much dusts and provides the necessary shade, as it blocks the sunlight from coming directly into the house.  We may like the idea of having natural lights inside the house but sometimes, this could be distracting especially when we are sleeping, reading books or working on our computers. But how should we maintain our curtains?

Blinds could be perfect for our homes but personally, I do prefer to have washable curtains that I could change regularly. Our curtains collect dusts over time, thus it is very important to change it on a regular basis.

In between changing, we could do some quick clean up with the aid of a vacuum cleaner.  I love to use the hand held vacuum cleaner with a string that could be hung over my neck as this could make me move freely while collecting the dusts from the curtains.  Doing this could prolong the time before you change your curtain with another one.  This could also help the family members to avoid catching the dusts that could be a health hazard especially if someone in the house is suffering from asthma.

It was also my practice to spray water infused with fabric conditioner and lemon to the curtains to freshen them up.  This would somehow disinfect the curtains especially if you use the one with "anti bac" formula.  Besides, this could make your home smelling fresh and clean.  I really love the smell of fabric conditioner especially when the air blows the smell around your house.  It feels cool and refreshing.

Choosing the right kind of curtain fabric according to the season also helps us to feel comfortable inside our homes.  Of course, during summer, we have to choose the ones which are light colored and made of light material and use thicker ones during wet season.

Knowing how to properly maintain our curtains will do the wonder.  It could make our house dust free and away from pollutants that could affect our health and of course, nothing could beat a fresh and beautiful home.  This could make you want to stay at home more. :)

Kitchen Organizers

I bought several items from Lazada and so far, none of these items put me down.  I think not all items are great in terms of quality but you just have to be very careful when choosing the product you would like to buy.   I guess, it's also important to read reviews done by previous buyers so you would have an idea of how the said product performs.  Reading the product description and specification is also important before you buy any product.

After buying hose for my garden, a wall fan for my dining room and one unit of Microwave oven, I guess, my next target would be a pot and pan organizer.

I saw this model from their site ad I think it's awesome!

I am surprised that this simple design can hold few pieces of pots and pans.  This will be very useful if you like to organize your pots and pans under you kitchen sink cabinet or just on the top of your kitchen counter. What you need is easily accessible and arranged nicely so there will be no eye sore in your kitchen.  Hmm....I think I have to consider getting this. :)

Benefits of Having Plants Inside Your House

Since I love gardening, it goes to show that I also love to arrange plants in cute tiny pots that I could place inside the house.  Normally, I would place some on the living room center table as this is the first thing that visitors would see the moment they enter our home.  I love to change my potted plants inside the house every now and then since I had plenty of plants in my garden and also because it gives me a certain kind of pleasure every time I see those inside my home, not to mention that it helps to purify the air and believes to give the home dwellers physical and mental health.

Adding interior spaces with green plants does not only beautify your homes, it also interacts with our body, mind and spirit in a way that it improves our quality of life in general.

A Music Room

Only few of his friends knew that my son's greatest frustration is to be able to sing well and play a guitar.  I guess it was his dream to become good at music but it seems that this dream never came into a reality since even after he graduated from college, my son never learned to play even a single musical instrument (lol). Whenever we're at home or elsewhere, he would always act and pretend like he's good at it and me and my daughter would always volunteer to have his photos taken as a souvenir.

When we were in Thailand, we are hoping to watch a local band play as we are quite intrigued on their kind of music, unfortunately, we were not able to do that due to time constraint.

Speaking of bands and music, I've found out during our trip that there are lots of Filipino bands playing in Thailand particularly in Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Phuket.  Filipinos are well known to be good singers and musicians so I understand my son's sentiments and desire to be one.

I think, the first step to appreciate a good music is to ensure the quality of the sound system that you're using. I've attended several parties before and it is such an annoying experience to have an irritating sound system in the background.  Choosing the best sound system equipped with the best amplifiers such as Genz-Benz Amplifiers is a must if you really want to have a good party experience.

How I wish we could have a music room in the house, perhaps that would be a great start for my kids to be trained in music well whether be it playing musical instruments or just develop their voice for singing.

I once tried to scout for music room designs online but my plan didn't actually push through as my son and daughter suddenly shifted their interest to another field of entertainment but given the opportunity, I would certainly love to have one in the house someday.

A Simple and Economical Outdoor Shower

If you have an extra space in your yard and you want to create an extra shower room for your visitors or a bathroom where you could have a quick shower if the other bathroom in the house is occupied, then this is a cool idea.  This could just be an extension from the space outside your kitchen or dining room or perhaps from your backyard.  Materials used are basic, simple and economical.  I think it's very easy to do to.  If the man in your house has a basic plumbing skills, perhaps this could pass as a weekend DIY project, too.
What do you think?

Under Sink Storage

If you are a home maker who loves to clean and organize, chances are you would probably find a smart way to store your cleaning supplies and materials in a concealed place where nobody could see. Well, that;s just normal and the challenge lies with smart storage solutions.  I had several sinks in both our main kitchen and dirty kitchen as well as in the laundry area but I never really make full use of those.  Probably, it doesn't have sufficient shelves or dividers for me to put everything in place.

Well, this under the sink storage idea is pretty cool and a smart way to create more storage spaces on under the sink cabinets.  Mine is lacking of dividers and shelves thus I can't possibly put in all those little stuff.  I can't wait to try this at home!

Our Home Backyard

This is how our backyard looks like a year ago before a strong typhoon "habagat" hits the Philippines.  We had these pieces of bamboos erected in the yard to divide our so called working area with the entire yard. We did it this way so that we could accommodate parties at home held at this backyard that will still look presentable even if it's just a bare lot with just some ornamental plants on the sides.  I think we've managed to transform that "bare lot" into something useful, in fact my daughter and son's graduation party was held there.  This is how it looked like during that party:

After the typhoon, the erected bamboos collapsed and everything in the yard was a mess.  We've decided to take out the bamboos as these are already an eye sore after that "habagat" incident.  Hubby had the lot filled with soil and sand from the river to increase the height of the ground.  We just have this lot ready once we've already prepared to erect another house.  We're actually planning to have the ground cemented so that we could turn it into something like an activity area for the family.  Hubby would love to have a basketball court erected for him and our son Edmar.  We also would like to have a huge space for our pet shi-tzus to walk and play around.  Hopefully, we could have the area ready for this purpose by next year.  It's not really easy to introduce home improvements these days due to the heavy cost of labor and materials, so we have to be financially prepared first.

But you know what? Introducing some improvements in the house seemed to be a stress reliever for me. :)

Til our next project!

Laundry Area At Home

We're just done updating our laundry area.  Due to budget constraint, it was not done yet exactly how I wanted it but I'm already happy that at least, we are able to make some minor improvements. Aside from repainting the gates, grills and fence, we were able to add two sinks.  One is for washing clothes and one is for grooming our beloved pets.

This is our pet grooming station

We had the fence repainted with a touch of yellow to complement with the two new sinks and I guess it's perfectly fine.

This is the dual sink.  One for washing clothes and the other one for grooming the pets.  We have installed floating shelves so we could place some laundry detergents, bars and soaps and for the grooming station, so we could place some dog shampoos and brushes.

I am still planning to install new gates and grills over the fence so we could make an enclosure during the rainy season.  maybe this will be our next move together with installing tiles on the entire laundry area.  This site is actually alongside our front pocket garden and I am also planning to save the front portion of the laundry area as an extension of our garden.  I think that would be a perfect idea to make every space functional.

Hopefully we could do this by next year. :)

Pet Grooming Station

Since we love our furry friends so much, we've decided that taking good care of their hygiene is a must!  Me and my son both agreed that they deserved to have their own grooming station where they could have their bath and also where they could have their hair trimmed and their nails cut.  They have now their very own space for grooming courtesy of hubby.  Well, thanks for that, your support is very much appreciated. :)

To be honest, I also thought of having this pet grooming station for hygienic purposes as I don't want the kids to simply bath the dog and cut their hair everywhere around the house.  They should have their own place for this so as not to mess up with the other activities in the house.  Doing this in the laundry area or in the dirty kitchen is definitely not a good idea.

This is another great project that we've accomplished this last summer!  Cheers to that!

Vertical Garden

We took a shot of this vertical garden inside Camp John Hay in Baguio during our recent visit there.  I couldn't help but stop and have a look at this huge vertical garden.  I would admit, this has been my long time plan... to build my own vertical garden at home.  Why not? A vertical garden is a real space saver and you can grow a variety of plants in just a small portion of your yard.  Amazing, isn't it?  No wonder vertical garden is so "in" today especially on public parks and spaces.

I've actually seen the wall garden of Ms. Kris Aquino when she featured her new home at Kris TV and wow, hers is a collection of organic vegetables. She's right! Having one at home would ensure you of a steady supply of fresh greens for your salad anytime of the day!

I wish I could start building my own vertical garden and wall garden soon! :)

New Lights Installed In Our Dining Room and Kitchen

Hooray! Hubby bought new lights for our kitchen and dining and it surely made our kitchen and dining area properly illuminated during meal time and not only that, it gives our dining area a touch of class and elegance. I was blessed to have a supportive husband who shares the same passion with me...decorating!

Actually, we have few reasons why we've decided to upgrade our lights in the dining area.  Aside from transforming the look of the area, we also would like to conserve energy.  Previously, we are using a chandelier in our dining room equipped with several halogen bulbs which are not bright enough to illuminate the area but also add up to the high cost of our electric bills.  we wanted a brighter dining room and kitchen but we don't want to suffer from paying our electric bills, so we did look for some pretty alternatives.

Thanks o hubby for making this possible, we have now an elegant looking kitchen and dining which is bright enough to suit our needs. :)

Indoor Plants From Baguio

On our recent trip to Baguio, I've managed to buy some plants (I will never go home without one). Plants in Baguio are really cheap, it's more than double the price here in the Philippines.

This is what they call as "money plant", I bought one pot and I've managed to divide it into 5 pots.  One of the guys whom we met at the Wright Park told us that this money plant is actually so easy to propagate.  All you have to do is just to plant it's leaves and it will grow from there (amazing huh).  well, according to my research, this is a "lucky plant" and can be grown indoors. This has to be tied with red ribbons when it comes to a desired size if you wish to add it as a decoration in your homes.

This plant is quite pricey and is called Lemon Pine Tree.  The seller told me that this could be used to get rid of insects around the house or yard.  If planted in a big pot, this could grow taller, maybe around 5 ft in height. I wasn't able to transfer it into a pot yet coz I wanted a bigger pot.

I wasn't able to get the name of this plant.  The seller told me that it's a bonsai plant and I bought this already arranged.  This is now displayed at the center table in my living room.

My love for plants started when I owned our first house.  It has a yard and I, together with my Mom managed to surround it with plants.  It really helps a lot in beautifying our home, from then on, gardening has already been my hobby.

Will feature more of my collections in my future posts.

One Pot Vegetable Garden

I have some huge pots which were actually part of the package when I hired a garden professional to landscape my garden few years back.  She actually planted these huge pots with trees ( I forgot the name) which resemble that of a coconut tree.  Unfortunately, these were not properly taken care of and now, these are still existing in my yard but look dull and dry.  I've thought of getting rid of the said trees which are not pleasant looking anyway and use those huge pots to plant vegetables instead.

I saw this one pot vegetable garden from Sunset and it solves my problem. Now I know what will I do with those huge pots that I have at home.  I think it will be more worthy to covert these pots into mini vegetable gardens.  These will yield fresh vegetables which I can make use for my dishes and salads.  Now, all I have to do is to buy some seeds or seedlings to complete the garden. Anyway, I have already started with some now and I just have to transfer these greens into those huge pots.

Another entry in my bucket list for summer! :)

Painted Wall Art

We've done a similar art work a couple of years ago in our dining area and it's actually a wall mural.  The art work on our wall is still alive until now and it really adds up to the beauty of our dining room.  Since, we do not possess the professional art skills, we just hired a professional artist to do the job for us.  The result was really awesome and it gathered compliments from all our home visitors and friends.

After seeing this design online, I just had this idea that a wall art similar to the one we've done before could also be used as an added design behind shelves and it really looks artistic and eye catching.

What do you think?

Walk In Pantry

I guess it would always be a dream for every Mom out there to have a walk in pantry.  It's my ultimate dream actually.  I love to have a pantry area that's concealed and could not be readily seen from the kitchen view.  I also love the pantry area to have lots of rooms for storage, so that means lots and lots of shelves. :)

It would also be nice to make a contrast in color by having the door to the pantry painted with a bold color of green or orange. Well, that all depends on what is the existing color of your kitchen wall.

Well, this is still a part of my bucket list and I'm just excited to try new ways to organize my kitchen. :)
