Cleaning Up Your Mattress

As our city was one of those who were greatly affected by the recent flooding in the Philippines, the family is now taking a big effort of restoring everything in the house. We may not be able to restore all the furniture back into shape that soon, but we should at least start with the more important aspect of the restoration process and that's the "clean up stage". I know it's going to be a very tough job for the kids and our trusted helper at home. I wish I was already home by now to at least help in this very tough job but since I'm still here and waiting for few weeks to be finally back home, I just can give them a piece of tip to at least ease out the burden of going through the clean up process. All our beds get stuck into the flood and yes, it's a great job to keep it back to life.

Here's a tip:

After thoroughly brushing the mattress with a mild detergent and lukewarm water to get rid of stuck dirt, the next thing would be the drying up process. When the drying up is completely achieved, the next best thing to do is to sprinkle the mattress with baking soda. Baking soda helps drew up moisture and deep seated dirt, leaving the mattress fresh and clean. You may also want to add up some dry fabric softener (in powder form), it will hep to restore back the condition of your mattress in no time.

Cheap Christmas Decor

As I will be definitely home for Christmas, I am now on a look out for new design ideas for my humble home.  My kids could very well attest to the fact that I love decorating and whenever I decorate, I always add a little bit of excitement by coming up with a new and unique idea that would make my design noticeable.  I have this belief that home decors need not be expensive.  I am more challenged to come up with a design that's budget friendly without sacrificing beauty and quality.  That's what makes interior decorating truly interesting!  As I want to come up with just a simple Christmas decor, I suddenly thought that this simple star made from bamboo sticks would suffice.  All I need is a small can of paint, a brush, some pretty ornaments and Christmas lights and I would already have a symbol of Christmas floating in my home.  I am excited to try this but I'm thinking whether I would go for gold or red and green for the accent.

Any suggestion?

Bring Life To Your Outdoors!

My love for plants was already evident when I was still a child, but it was only when I first acquired my very own home did I cultivate this hobby and interest.  I have this notion that no matter how simple or modest your house is, with plenty of plants and flowers, this can be transformed into a paradise. Indeed it's true, our first house is a plain and simple one but we have lots of greens around the yard.  The presence of a variety of flowering plants with all it's vibrant colors even make our place looking nice and attractive. No one has entered our modest yard not feeling overwhelmed with the beauty of the surroundings. Everyone is complementing  our luscious greens and the colorful roses in uniformly sized pots lined up on our porch. These words make me grin most of the times.  I can't help but feel proud of our humble home. :)

Creating A Play Area

I've found this seating area with storage bins underneath and I find it perfect for small areas of the house.  On this photo, the corner space was transformed into a play room with lots of storage boxes for toys and other educational materials for kids.  The wall was accentuated with a wall paper while cute throw pillows of various sizes filled the customized benches.

You may also create a breakfast nook or a reading nook out of similar lay out and design. A stylish chandelier completes the look.

Mobile Computer Carts

I'm currently looking for mobile computer cart designs, as I wanted to have one that can save a lot of space in the house.  I've found these designs online and I really find both products worthy of my objective.  The first is for a personal computer with special compartments for the CPU and printer.  I love that it's so slim, compact and can be dragged to any point in the house as it comes with wheels.

The one in the second photo is specifically designed for laptops and would be ideal when you're on bed but still want to work on something with your laptop.

Now, I don't know which one to choose, both designs are fabulous but I think I would still go for the first one as it's more suitable for keeping all the computer related peripherals on hand.

Create A Wall Accent Using Wall Paper

Years ago when we were still living on our first house, I remembered that we have installed wall papers on our living room walls.  I saw it on sale at a Duty Free Store and I love the colors thus, I was tempted to buy some for our living room.  It's very tiring though as we had long walls to cover.  Actually, we would like to give our living room an instant make over and we thought that installing wall papers is going to be easy.  :)

Now, there's no need to wall paper the entire room same way that we did few years ago.  The good news is we could mix and match and choose a design or pattern with colors that would complement the entire room. Accentuating your walls has become easier using a wall paper.  This way, we could save on the costs and speed up the work, too.  This is a simple way of giving your room a lift without having to spend much or take too much of your time.  Accent your wall using a wall paper!

Repurposed Old Wine Rack

No extra space for your towels?

An old wine rack can be transformed into a towel organizer.  You can choose to put on display towels of different colors for an added decorative effect.  Just roll those towels and you're just into your first step of going for an effective storage solution.  Not only will your towels be easy to reach but it can also transform your bathroom into something that's unique and stylish. :)

Storage problem can be addressed too with this beautiful and handy wine rack.

Use Fun Paint Technique on Your Floor

Put life to your backyard with this fun and easy project!

Discover the fun way of adding personality to a focal point in your backyard for less.  Yes, for less. This weekend project doesn't even require much time and money.  All you should have is a creative mind and hand plus some basic materials such as acrylic paint, paint plasters, white concrete paint, stencil for your design and satin concrete sealer. Easy Peesy!

In this colorful design, a concrete white paint was used as primer.  The trick is to start from the outward edges then going into the middle afterwards.  Sections should be painted one at a time and paint should be allowed to completely dry before applying the tape for the next design.  Additional designs can be made later inside the squares.  This floor design is really eye catching and any onlooker would mistaken it for a floor rag.

Add few pieces of outdoor furniture after completing the design.  Make sure that the color of your furniture will match the chosen color combination for the floor.  Add few pieces of potted plants and voila! A stylish outdoors!

Small Garden Design Idea

Just like what I have done in my front yard's pocket garden, there's always a way to create a mini garden out of a small space.  All it takes are some garden rocks and stones, bricks, garden accessories, a water feature and plants of different varieties.

It has always been a dream for me to have my own garden and that was fulfilled after me and hubby were able to acquire our own house, not just one....but two. :)  It was indeed a blessing but having my own garden has made me fulfilled more than ever.  I have plans of adding more cute gardens at home and this time, I want to do it on my own.  My first garden was done by a professional landscaper, so I wanted to try my own creativity this time. I would look for a supplier of garden stones and accessories and I'm on my way to creating a new garden and I was just so excited about it.

Easy Window Treatment

Are you the kind of home maker who always love to shop for fancy curtains with all those laces, vibrant colors and intricate patterns?  I do! I always get fascinated with beautiful curtains.  Why not?  Cute and colorful curtains when added to your windows create a bright statement.  I choose the fabric with eye catching patterns and designs and with colors that will complement the overall motif of the room where I intend to install these curtains.  But apart from using it as an added decoration, curtains also have various functions such as providing privacy to your homes, regulating the amount of light that enters your home and to block dirt and dusts that could easily penetrate your rooms.

These are only some of the reasons why I'm very particular with choosing curtains for our house.  Price has never never been an issue.  There also lots of curtain fabrics in the market that are economical but comes with attractive designs and patterns.  All what it takes is an eye for details and quality workmanship.  I also reserve some curtains for special occasions like Christmas and other events that I considered special to the family.

Installing nice and elaborate curtain designs is one way of adding beauty to your windows, protect your homes and attract the attention of your visitors.
