DIY : Vase Arrangement

Last week, I had a chance to work on some DIY projects at home.  I'm much into arts and crafts lately and upon seeing this old vase sitting in one corner of the living room, I've decided to put some twist by adding some gift cloth and ribbons which are already available in the house.  As much as possible, I want to decorate on a budget and avoid spending much on fancy things that we could buy from the shops.  Creativity is the key and there's always something that we could do out of what we have at home. :)

Here's what I've got:

Did you notice what's inside? Those are actually broom sticks (walis tingting) which were adorned by some dried bark of trees shaped into leaves.  I really like it and this beautiful creation is now occupying the corner space of our living room.

I also make a center piece for our center table that matches my vase.  I got to replace it from time to time depending on the occasion and depending on my mood, lol.

Till my next project! :)

Vases and Bamboos

When it comes to home decorations, I always love that oriental look and basically, my main subjects are vases and bamboos.  I love vases especially the one with earth colors.  I love it more when you got to pair it with bamboos.  I find it cool and appealing.  It doesn't only beautify your space but it looks very refreshing.
Maybe because, I have that impression that I am outdoors whenever I see bamboos.

I had the chance to go around the mall last weekend and I passed that Christmas Bazaar where there are lots of home decors on display.  I cannot control myself but to have a closer look at these beautiful vases with bamboos.  Luckily that no one stopped me when I took a shot of these in front of the store. (lol)

Really lovely, right?  If you are on a budget, you can skip buying bamboos from malls as it's more expensive to get one there.  I suggest you get it from the market or you can contact someone staying on the countryside to get those bamboos from you, that's how I've done it before and it saved me a lot of bucks. Also, instead of the vases shown above, you may opt to get ordinary plant pots.  It's not about the kind of material you used, it's how you you use your creativity to arrange your vases and bamboos.  :)

DIY : Memo Board

I am pleased with the outcome of my newest project! A DIY Memo Board a.k.a. "Reminder's Board". :)

This is actually at the back of the door of one of the shelves of my wardrobe cabinet.  I want to maximize the space that I've got and since I've found it bare, I thought of creating a memo board out of that door.  It will make the door more functional and at the same time, I will always be reminded about my tasks every time I open that shelf which is actually happens few times a day.

I also decorated it with some cute proverbs and sayings which I printed from the computer.  It makes my memo board colorful and attractive!

The only thing I spent for in this project is the cork board which I bought from National Book Store for Php117.00.  The rest were just acquired from my old organizers and some were printed from our computer.

Now, I will always be reminded with my appointments or daily tasks and everything seemed organized! :)

Creating More Closet Storage

When I decided to replace my wardrobe cabinet after the old one has been destroyed by the great flood that struck the city, I purposely ordered for a bigger one.  I have lots of personal stuff and this includes all the things that I've acquired when I was still working in Cambodia.  My old cabinet is not that big and I didn't think of replacing it then since I just stay in the Philippines once in a while during my scheduled vacations which would not normally last for even a month.  But now that I'm staying home for good, I need to create more space for my clothes, bags, fashion accessories, toiletries, make up, skin care products, perfumes and a lot more. :)

I love organizing and it's a fact.  I've been reorganizing everything in the house since I arrived and I'm not yet done until now. :)  Well, I'm fond of printing labels for the storage baskets in the cabinet and crafts corner as well as on the jars on our pantry area in the kitchen.  I really want to see everything neat and organized.

I have more to organized and I'm just excited to share some of my projects here in this blog soon.

Table Top Decorating

I'm planning to make a table center piece for our living room and dining room.  This will be in preparation for the Christmas season.  But I'm thinking of something unique and of course easy on the pocket.  I would admit since I came back home a month ago, I've been spending quite a lot for the restoration of the house.  I couldn't afford to see that my home sweet home was devastated after the great flood that struck our city almost two months ago.  Thus, I'm hoping to use my creativity in decorating my home without ruining my budget.

I think these two designs here are cool....

I could very well get some twigs from the backyard and buy some tea candles at a local shop. This looks so natural and elegant.  I'm feeling excited to come up with one. :)

This design is quite simple and I already have readily available materials at home.  I think I would settle for this one for the dining room and the first design would surely be great for my living room. :)

Anymore ideas to share?

Stationery Organizer

I am thinking of having a crafts corner which will double as a charging station for our home gadgets. Actually, this will be done on a repurposed mini dresser that I bought from a furniture store few years ago.  Since I have ordered for a custom made wardrobe cabinet for our master's bedroom, I've lost the space for that mini dresser, so I just thought of using it for other purpose and also to relocate it somewhere in the dining area.   As usual, I am finding ways and means to save for my home projects and to make use of what's already available in the house, so I thought of making my own stationery organizer, something similar to the one shown above.  It's actually made from recycled card boards, paper towel rolls and toilet paper tubes.  I have lots of these at home, so I might as well use these for my project.

Will post here my finished project soon. :)

Cute Remote Control Holder

If you're thinking of putting all your remote control in one place, then I think it would really be a great idea to have a remote control organizer.  Photo shown above is an example of a cute remote control holder which I found from my Pinterest board.  You can make use of colorful fabric from your old pillow cases or table cloth.  Just hand sew it and add more designs to make it more appealing to the eyes.  I think this could be hung at the side of the TV rack or your wall unit or divider.

This will solve your problem of remote control being misplaced most of the times. :)

A very cool idea!

Tree Bookcase

Just happen to see this creative tree bookcase and I thought of sharing this here for the book lovers out there.  I know that we are already on a digital age and most of us are having Ipads, tablets and e-book readers where we can have the luxury of storing our favorite books in one single gadget but I'm pretty sure that there are still some who couldn't get'away with their paper backs. I myself is still keeping some of my favorite traditional books and I intend to keep them forever.

So this tree bookcase will give you a unique and creative way of storing your favorite books which could definitely be an eye catcher in your bedroom.

Want to give it a try?

Kids Bedroom Ideas

For families with four kids or more, here are some space saving kids bedroom design ideas.  I love the fact that gorgeous bedroom designs are not only confined to big spaces.  Any size will do as long as we know how how to maximize space and use our creativity and imagination to create a bedroom design that's not only functional but a pleasant place for our kids to stay and have fun!

Love these bed bunks...really cool!

Because of these space saving ideas, I get more inspired to have customized furniture for the house.  This way, we can assure that only durable materials were used for our furniture and we can have the design customized based on our requirements.

Kitchen Storage Ideas

I am thinking of creating more storage spaces for our kitchen.  Now that we already made use of our pantry cabinet to store our baking supplies and tools for our cup cake business, I just think that there is now a need to create more storage spaces and to rearrange our kitchen stuff.  It's a bit messy now, I know and I do not blame our house helper for this.  I was not present in the house for the last 6 months and I understand that organization has never been a favorite task for a house helper.  Nobody would have the patience to do this except the home maker herself, of course.

So, I am now thinking and searching for some fresh ideas on how I can possibly make a difference when it comes to organizing my kitchen.

Love these designs that I saw online:

Instead of the rattan boxes, we can also make use of plastic baskets for storage.  I think plastic baskets are cheaper alternative and I love the idea that these are washables, too.

Hope I could come up with other storage ideas that would fit my kitchen space.  That I would love to do very soon. :)

Get Organized Using PVC Pipes

If you are running short of storage spaces like I do, there's a smart  way of maximizing your cabinet space. You can make use of the very versatile plastic PVC pipes.  This is very simple to do!  Just cut the plastic PVC pipe according to your desired lenght and this of course depends on what item you would like to store. Just stick those pipes against the door of your cabinets and voila you can successfully create an additional storage space for your other stuff in the house.

I'm thinking of creating more uses for these plastic pipes aside from what was mentioned above.  Don't worry, I'll be sharing this with you on my future posts.

Smart Ways To Organize Your Ribbons

As Christmas season is fast approaching, chances are, you are already thinking about tons of gifts that you need to prepare for your family and friends.  I have my own way of preparing my gifts before which I only ceased to do since I work abroad, but now that I will be back and is planning to stay at home for good, I might be back with my  "old ways" of preparing for my gifts.  I love to prepare gifts in advance and it's a year round activity.

I normally buy gifts, wrapping papers and ribbons whenever I see that there is a big sale on stores.  I would keep these stuff until I am satisfied with the number.  This way, I would not notice about my spending as I would just normally take this from my savings from the house budget.  This is the reason why I am able to save my Christmas bonus those years that I am working in the Philippines.

Speaking of gifts, I've found a great way to organize those ribbons and other craft materials that could be used for your gift wrapping.  You see those photos above?  I think it's simple and very cheap too.  This will be a big help for you to gather those ribbons in one place and get everything organized.

I'll make one....definitely!  :)

Tips For A Spotless Floor

Since we are still on the "clean up stage" as a result of a great flood that hits our city sometime last September, I've been constantly searching for some easy cleaning solution for my home sweet home. Our loyal house helper and kids are all trying their best to restore our house in it's original condition and we all want the same thing, that is to see our house spotless same like before. Everything is getting better and I'm happy that everything is slowly getting back to normal now. But what I want to do now is to give our floor a shiny and spotless appearance.

Glad that I've found this floor cleaning solution:

1/4 cup white vinegar
1 tbsp liquid dish soap
1/4 cup baking soda
2 gallons tap water

I've heard about the power of baking soda and vinegar a number of times in the past and I am convinced that these two are really a winning combination as far as cleaning is concerned.  So these two will be the top on my list when I prepare the list of the grocery items that I need to buy once I get back home.

Have you tried this yet?

Cleaning Up Your Mattress

As our city was one of those who were greatly affected by the recent flooding in the Philippines, the family is now taking a big effort of restoring everything in the house. We may not be able to restore all the furniture back into shape that soon, but we should at least start with the more important aspect of the restoration process and that's the "clean up stage". I know it's going to be a very tough job for the kids and our trusted helper at home. I wish I was already home by now to at least help in this very tough job but since I'm still here and waiting for few weeks to be finally back home, I just can give them a piece of tip to at least ease out the burden of going through the clean up process. All our beds get stuck into the flood and yes, it's a great job to keep it back to life.

Here's a tip:

After thoroughly brushing the mattress with a mild detergent and lukewarm water to get rid of stuck dirt, the next thing would be the drying up process. When the drying up is completely achieved, the next best thing to do is to sprinkle the mattress with baking soda. Baking soda helps drew up moisture and deep seated dirt, leaving the mattress fresh and clean. You may also want to add up some dry fabric softener (in powder form), it will hep to restore back the condition of your mattress in no time.

Cheap Christmas Decor

As I will be definitely home for Christmas, I am now on a look out for new design ideas for my humble home.  My kids could very well attest to the fact that I love decorating and whenever I decorate, I always add a little bit of excitement by coming up with a new and unique idea that would make my design noticeable.  I have this belief that home decors need not be expensive.  I am more challenged to come up with a design that's budget friendly without sacrificing beauty and quality.  That's what makes interior decorating truly interesting!  As I want to come up with just a simple Christmas decor, I suddenly thought that this simple star made from bamboo sticks would suffice.  All I need is a small can of paint, a brush, some pretty ornaments and Christmas lights and I would already have a symbol of Christmas floating in my home.  I am excited to try this but I'm thinking whether I would go for gold or red and green for the accent.

Any suggestion?

Bring Life To Your Outdoors!

My love for plants was already evident when I was still a child, but it was only when I first acquired my very own home did I cultivate this hobby and interest.  I have this notion that no matter how simple or modest your house is, with plenty of plants and flowers, this can be transformed into a paradise. Indeed it's true, our first house is a plain and simple one but we have lots of greens around the yard.  The presence of a variety of flowering plants with all it's vibrant colors even make our place looking nice and attractive. No one has entered our modest yard not feeling overwhelmed with the beauty of the surroundings. Everyone is complementing  our luscious greens and the colorful roses in uniformly sized pots lined up on our porch. These words make me grin most of the times.  I can't help but feel proud of our humble home. :)

Creating A Play Area

I've found this seating area with storage bins underneath and I find it perfect for small areas of the house.  On this photo, the corner space was transformed into a play room with lots of storage boxes for toys and other educational materials for kids.  The wall was accentuated with a wall paper while cute throw pillows of various sizes filled the customized benches.

You may also create a breakfast nook or a reading nook out of similar lay out and design. A stylish chandelier completes the look.

Mobile Computer Carts

I'm currently looking for mobile computer cart designs, as I wanted to have one that can save a lot of space in the house.  I've found these designs online and I really find both products worthy of my objective.  The first is for a personal computer with special compartments for the CPU and printer.  I love that it's so slim, compact and can be dragged to any point in the house as it comes with wheels.

The one in the second photo is specifically designed for laptops and would be ideal when you're on bed but still want to work on something with your laptop.

Now, I don't know which one to choose, both designs are fabulous but I think I would still go for the first one as it's more suitable for keeping all the computer related peripherals on hand.
